Artist Kazuya Nakayama spent August and September 2022 in Europe accompanying an antique dealer. They traveled from city to city in a packed van, witnessed purchases from markets, second-hand shops, and vendors in France and other places, and saw a "big house" in the situation where antiques were accumulated - furniture, cutlery, ornaments, and clothes lined up all together.
This book is a collection of portraits of people who were present at each of the places he bought goods. He asked the people who were in the "big house" to act as if they were at home using the antiques he had purchased. But of course, it didn't work out. While shopping or working, they were confused by the strange requests from Asians, which felt like a linguistic distance, and often caused tension and refusal. These emotions are expressed in the blurred photographs and expressions that show strong tension in the faces of the people in this book.
"I want to take your picture, but I don't want you to act like you're at home..." he said, feeling just as uncomfortable as Nakayama himself. However, after the shoot was over, and having returned from what had been a disastrous situation for both parties, Nakayama was able to open up to the local people with a surprisingly gentle expression.
This book could be said to be a collection of works that capture the moments just before the repeated tensions and relaxations. It is also an album of the bitter moments of Nakayama, who formed a special relationship with this place through a somewhat distorted communication in the name of art or artwork. [well]

Kazuya Nakayama was born in Chiba Prefecture. He is active in Asia and Europe. He does not prepare his works in advance, but focuses on what is happening here and now, and directly visualizes the sensations he senses. His exhibitions include an unexpected meeting between lovers in impossible situations, a late arrival, and a summer orange rolling down a slope in the forest. He takes the first step in response to the situation, and then presents the actions and results that arise there as works.
