Lee Lozano (1930-1999) was an advocate of radical art, perhaps best known for her "boycott" of women. After the early 1970s, she claimed to never speak to a woman again. Around the same time, Lozano announced her retirement from the art world. Her drawings and paintings were overwhelming, urgent, transgressive, and later monochromatic. Her acidic jubilation, far ahead of her time, brought her back into the limelight. In 2004, PS1 hosted an important exhibition that generated much response. In this monograph, Kunsthalle Wien contrasts Lozano's work with that of Dorothy Iannone. Although Iannone and Lozano are clearly different, Lozano's more assertive work shares with Iannone a number of visual characteristics, as well as an uncompromising attitude and resolute political engagement. Their radicalism, humor, and occasional whining attitude clearly complement each other.

The exhibition "Seek the Extremes..." at the Kunsthall Vienna ran from July to October 2006. The catalogue, Vol I, is dedicated to Iannone, and Vol 2 to Lozano.

Near the same time, Lozano declared her retirement from the art world. Her drawings and paintings overwhelmingly are, urgent and transgressive, and later they became monochromatic. Her acidic raptures were far ahead of their time, but have come to prominence. In 2004 PS1 hosted an important and widely reviewed posthumous exhibition. In this monograph, Kunsthalle Wien contrasts Lozano's work with that of Dorothy Iannone. While Iannone and Lozano are markedly different, Lozano's more hard-charging work shares with Iannone's an uncompromising attitude and determined political engagement, along with many visual engagement characteristics. Their radicalism, humor and sometimes bitchy attitudes complement one another revealingly. (from Publisher)
