Masato Seto was born in Thailand. After moving to Japan, he became an assistant to Masahisa Fukase and then started working as a freelance photographer. In 1987, he opened the photo gallery " "Place M" was opened.
This photobook contains a series of "picnic"-themed portraits of couples that the artist began taking around 1995. A couple lying in the grass, a couple huddled together in the shade of a tree. Like the lush trees of early summer, some love affairs begin suddenly, while others fade away. The beauty that lies in between is reflected in these works in a strange way.
Masato Seto was born in Thailand and moved to Japan, where he began his career as a freelance photographer after working as an assistant to Masahisa Fukase. In 1987, he founded the photography gallery Place M .
This photo book features a series of portraits titled Picnic , begun around 1995, capturing seemingly ordinary couples. Lovers lying in tall grass, embracing beneath the shade of trees—like the sudden burst of greenery in early summer, some romances begin in an instant, while others vanish just as quickly. In these fleeting moments, a strange and delicate beauty quietly emerges through Seto's lens.
